Community Corner for May 22

YoungLife (our neighbour to the east) is hosting a number of fundraising events in June, and you’re invited! YoungLife is committed to serving teens through meaningful relationships. They create spaces where teens feel heard, topics like faith and life are discussed, and Jesus is introduced. Whether you prefer an evening of tapas, drinks, & silent auction, or a walk or bicycle ride through the beautiful river valley, or a round of golf with new friends, they have an event for you! Please follow these links for more information about the West Edmonton Tapas FundraiserRiver Valley Fondo+Hike, and the Prairie Region Golf Tournament.

Downtown Spark is back!  Running from May 26 to June 5, 2022, this year’s festival is even bigger and better with plenty of things to see, from art installations to daily musical performances, food trucks and street parties. The second annual arts festival will feature inflatable art sculptures from the UK-based Designs in Air and a new installation from Edmonton-based Vignettes. Rice Howard Way and Alex Decouteau Park will be home to this year’s art installations. Festival-goers are encouraged to walk from one site to another and enjoy performers and food trucks at Alex Decouteau Park. Running over two weekends, Downtown Spark will feature free family-friendly (and even pet-friendly) events each Saturday. For more information, visit edmontondowntown.com/spark.

Mark your calendar! June 1st is “Intergenerational Day” in Canada, and there are so many things you can do to mark the day. We need cross-generational connections. Visit Intergenerational Day to learn more. On June 1st, take the time to find someone from a different generation (ie. Born a decade before or after you). Whether you simply make eye contact, hold the door open for that person, and tell them to “Have a good day!” or you make time for a short walk, shared meal or simply write them a card, you’ll have made a difference!
