There are many articles on the internet that consider the relationship of Mental Health and Christian Faith. One oft-cited shortcoming of the Christian understanding of Mental Illness is the belief that mental illness reflects spiritual conflict or personal shortcomings of faith. This leads to a lack of loving response. However, to respond with love and care towards a person suffering mental illness might be better framed in the ways that we respond towards a person suffering from a cancer diagnosis. For a thoughtful consideration of Mental Health and Christian Faith, please read “The Bible and Mental Health” by John W. Kennedy and Renee Griffith-Grantham, found HERE on the Bible Engagement Project.
