“You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” Gen 16:13
This year’s theme for the International Day of Prayer is “Remember Her” as we focus on the suffering bride of Christ around the world, and specifically the way persecution impacts women and girls who often silently endure great hardship for the name of Christ. Across the world there over 365 million people persecuted. The forms of persecution include financial, social, and religious, as well as physical violence. You can find more information at www.opendoorsus.org/en-US/persecution/countries. Key focus areas for prayer are:
- North Korea remains the most dangerous place in the world for Christians.
- In China, at least 10,000 churches closed in 2023. New regulations mean churches must display signs reading, "Love the Communist Party, love the country, love the religion."
- In India, there is strife between Hindu and Muslim, Hindu and Sikh, and Hindu and Christian. This tension goes on even though there is supposed to be religious freedom.
- Nigeria is the deadliest place to follow Jesus; 82% of killings happened there. Roaming gangs raid villages killing men and kidnapping women, many of whom are never heard of again.
- In Sub-Saharan Africa, about 3% of all Christians are displaced.
- In Sudan, due to a power struggle between rival army forces, more than 9,000 people have been killed and nearly 6 million displaced. More than 165 churches have closed, and others have been destroyed.
