Earlier this week, CN Rail made headlines when their entire Indigenous Advisory Council resigned. The council members resigned as CN Rail had made no moves towards any of the council’s recommendations, which were made in a report over a year ago. The recommendations included having an official apology from CN Rail for it’s participation in the displacement of (and subsequent consequences to) Indigenous peoples. CN Rail responded to the resignation, acknowledging “the complex history of railways and the role they played as instruments of colonial policies, as well as the intergenerational economic, cultural, and social effects that these policies have had on Indigenous communities.” (From Penticton Herald, HERE) However, they have yet to take responsibility for their part in that history, and issue a formal apology.
