August 23, 2024 marks the 148th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6.
The communities of Holyrood and Strathearn, along with St Luke’s Anglican Church, are hosting “Treaty 6 Recognition Day” on Saturday, Aug 24, in the Holyrood Park Green Space (95 Avenue & 80 St), at 10:30am. Please join them to learn about Treaty. We don’t talk much about being Treaty People, but it is important to reflect on what Canada’s representatives agreed to when they entered into this treaty relationship. At St Paul’s, we’ll be reflecting on what we understand about treaty in general and Treaty 6 in particular, with “Treaty Talk”, a discussion circle happening on Aug 25 after the Sunday morning service. There are also several books on display in the church office for you to look through and learn more. For one reflection on what it means to be treaty people, visit the article “How to Be a Better Treaty Person” by Amei-Lee Laboucan at www.ualberta.ca/newtrail/how-to/how-to-be-a-better-treaty-person.html.
