August 23, 2024 marks the 148th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6.
We don’t talk much about being Treaty People, but it is important to reflect on what Canada’s representatives agreed to when they entered into this treaty relationship. At St Paul’s, we’ll be reflecting on what we understand about treaty in general and Treaty 6 in particular, with “Treaty Talk”, a discussion circle happening after church today (Aug 25). There are also several books on display in the church office for you to look through and learn more. For one person’s reflection on what it means to be treaty people, visit the article “How to Be a Better Treaty Person” by Amei-Lee Laboucan at www.ualberta.ca/newtrail/how-to/how-to-be-a-better-treaty-person.html.
